Why we exist

A women-led NGO for women & children.

Founded on 15 June 1999 by a group of African women from diverse backgrounds — business owners, economists, resource persons — AFELP now counts a general assembly of 1,450 members and a 7-person board.

It champions women's and children's rights, and gives decision-makers the information that moves the status of women in Senegal forward.

Fighting AIDS Children of Dakar

A care room, milk, clothes — and a Christmas tree every year.

With Secours Populaire Français we support Albert Royer hospital in caring for children who are ill with or orphaned by AIDS. A consultation room was equipped, medicines supplied, and a monthly allowance granted to host families.

A rally at Marius Ndiaye stadium, attended by the First Lady, raised awareness and funds for these children.

Daara · Malika Children of the daara

Four hectares to reintegrate street children.

A residential centre 26 km from Dakar. With the Malika daara and SPF we work on reintegration: renovating and extending the library, setting up a 3,000-chick poultry farm, and training in poultry farming and market gardening.

PAPNBG · UE Women's meeting — AFELP archives

600 women trained against violence against women.

In partnership with the European Union and the State of Senegal, the PAPNBG programme ran across 6 regions — Dakar, Thiès, Diourbel and beyond — reaching 600 direct beneficiaries, with a ripple effect on communities through the 9th EDF.

80 girls out of school — back on track through a trade.

A training programme for 80 girls excluded from the school system: sewing, tailoring, management and IT. On completion: micro-projects and a pathway into work.

Hospitals, daaras, neighbourhoods, rural districts — AFELP works with grassroots partners to support young people and women who are overwhelmingly active and dynamic, often unschooled yet entrepreneurial: small trade, food processing, sewing, dyeing.
